Gentilly Multi-Family| New Orleans, LA | Susan Gray 504-261-9338
The Gentilly neighborhood spans a large area on the northeast side of New Orleans. It is bounded by City Park to the west, the Industrial Canal to the east, I-610 to the south, and Lake Pontchartrain to the north. Built along a naturally occurring ridge, Gentilly Road formed the eastern path to the oldest part of the city, today's French Quarter. Gentilly is a collection of sub-neighborhoods including Filmore, Milneberg, Lake Terrace/Lake Oaks, St. Anthony, Gentilly Terrace, Dillard, Gentilly Woods, and Pontchartrain Park. Gentilly is known for a number of green spaces, including golf courses, parks, and the campuses of three universities: Dillard University, Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) and The University of New Orleans (UNO). The oldest of the three, Dillard University, was founded in 1930 when two local schools (Straight University and New Orleans University) combined. Today, the neighborhood contains the largest collection of California Craftsman style bungalows (built 1910-26) in the state, as well as English cottages and Spanish and Mediterranean Revival raised houses from the period 1910-1940. Despite the presence of nearby shopping centers, Gentilly Terrace retains a laid-back, almost country feel that makes it attractive to everyone.
